WELCOME TO THE FINAL RELEASE OF PAGESTREAM 3.1 October 29, 1996
==========================================================================
Choose Scripts/View ReadMe.Now to read this from within PageStream3.
(Requires ARexx.)
NOTE!
-----
You do not need to download 3.1 TuneUps 1 and 2. This patch incorporates
the files in those updates.
ANNOUNCING PAGESTREAM 3.2 FOR AMIGA!
------------------------------------
Some Amiga users had speculated that SoftLogik would leave the Amiga
market after releasing 3.1, but SoftLogik has announced that it would
continue to support Amiga computers. PageStream 3.2 for Amiga is
available now.
"PageStream 3.2 is an example of our continuing commitment to our Amiga
customers" said Deron Kazmaier. "I'd like to thank our customers who have
stuck with us through the last couple of years. The only way we can
continue to support them is if we release regular upgrades. We've been
listening to their requests and have added some of the most popular
features."
PageStream 3.2 includes the following new features:
- Configurable Toolbar: You can now add and remove buttons in
PageStream's toolbar. Buttons with unique icons are included for many of
PageStream's menu commands. Extra buttons are included so that you can
assign their own scripts to buttons. You can also add and remove space
between buttons.
- Show/Hide Toolbar: If you don't want to use the toolbar, you can close
it to reserve more space for your documents.
- Eyedropper Tool: Copy and paste text and object attributes. Click with
the Eyedropper tool to "pick up" attributes, and then click elsewhere to
"paste" attributes.
- Hanging Indent button: Click this button to set the first line and left
indents to automatically create a hanging indent at the next tab stop.
Click again to unindent the text.
- Increase and Decrease Indent buttons: Click these buttons to indent
text to the right and left. When used with the Hanging Indent button, you
can easily create nested hanging indents.
- Default Tab Spacing: You can now change the default tab spacing for any
block of text from the default 0.333" to any value. This feature plays an
important role with the new Indent buttons when you have not defined any
tab stops.
- True Pasteboard: Objects dragged to the pasteboard will be on the
pasteboard on every page in the chapter. This offers an easy method to
move objects from page to page and to use objects on more than one page.
You can move objects out of the way to work on other objects, and then
move them back or to another page at a later time.
- Open Recent: You can now select a document to open from the last eight
documents instead of searching through your hard drive for a file.
- Effect filters: BME's effect filters may now be used within PageStream.
Just select a picture and click the FX button. Nine effect filters are
included with PageStream and BME, including autotracing. Twelve more are
available separately in the Gary's Effects package.
- Masks (irregular graphic frames): Crop graphics inside of any shape.
Just draw a shape or path, select it and the graphic to mask, and choose
Mask Graphic. Pictures, drawings and EPS illustrations can now be masked
by any shape you can draw! Choose Release Mask to separate the mask from
a masked graphic, or choose Clear Mask to delete the mask. You can also
create a mask for a picture automatically with the Generate Mask command,
release the mask, edit its points with the Reshape tool, and then mask
the picture with the modified mask.
- Matching script commands have been added for the above features.
A preview of the new features in 3.2 is available at the SoftLogik web
page at http://www.softlogik.com/pgs32info.html

TUNEUP 1 AND 2 CHANGES
----------------------
TEXT:
- Fixed the printing of applied default italics to PostScript when the font
family has a real italic available.
- Fixed the Can't find Français module problem.
- Fixed the printing of applied default italics to PostScript.
- The Font pop-up menus display much quicker now. This is primarily important
for selecting the Text tool when the Edit palette is open and many fonts
are installed.
- NEW FEATURE! You can now append a fontlist file. To create multiple sets of
fontlists for different projects, add the fonts you want, save the font
preferences, rename the PageStream3.fontprefs file to something else, and
then repeat as many times as required. Your default setup should be named
PageStream3.fontprefs. When you want to append another fontlist, hold down
Shift when clicking the Add button in the Font Preferences requester and
then select the fontprefs file.
- Typing with lots of installed fonts should be faster now.
OBJECTS:
- Fixed the stroking of imported PageStream 2 objects.
- Fixed the stroking of imported ProDraw Clip objects.
- Fixed the stroking of imported Art Expression drawings.

(Doesn't yet handle selected styled text properly.)
- Improved the German and French language engines. They will now create a

algorithms. Note that only text formatted as German or French with Set
Hyphenation will be hyphenated using these drivers.
- Added more language engines. These provide localized dates, times, numbers
and smart quotes, as well as separate custom dictionaries. They do not
provide localized automatic hyphenation at this time. These engines were
translated by volunteers. Thank you!

- Fixed loading of 3.0i and earlier documents. NOTE: Loading older
documents will take longer until they have been saved in 3.1 format.
They must be converted to the new document format the first time.
- Fixed some (but not all) of the problems with facing pages. Note:
If you turn Facing Pages off, you can work on double-sided pages
properly.
- Improved the speed of loading PageStream 2.2, Professional Page 4
and Wordworth 3.1/5.0 documents by 25%.
TEXT:
- Increased typing speed almost back to where it was in 3.0i.
- Improved the speed of text redraws by a small amount over 3.0i, and
a larger amount over 3.1b1.
- Fixed loading of 3.0i or earlier style (and color) files.
- Fixed the enforcer hit when opening the Paragraph Format requester.
- Fixed the highlighting of text (which sometimes was invisible).
- Fixed the saving of Font Preferences.
- Fixed the problem with the Font pop-up menu in the Edit palette not
being refreshed when fonts were added or removed in Font Preferences.
- Fixed the problem with moving TextFX curve objects. (Type set on a
curved path.)
- Fixed the applying of styles (tags).
- Fixed the problem with type styles extending past the text to which
they were applied.
- Fixed the application of bold and italic to the standard 35 fonts.
- Fixed a problem using tabs in text blocks.
- Fixed the problem with text blocks being created when you tried to
select text at the left edge of a column.
- Improved the speed of importing text by 5-15%.
- Fixed the PostScript font spacing problem. (It was a bug in the
compiler.)
OBJECTS:
- Implemented arrowheads on screen and for all printers! (Arrow4 is not
yet done.)
- Improved the redraw speed of objects by 500% over 3.1b1. It's still
not as fast as 3.0i, but a lot closer.
- Fixed editing of groups with the Edit palette.
- Fixed Shift clicking to deselect a selected object.
- Improved the speed of creating text frames. (It is three times faster
than 3.1b1, and even faster than 3.0i now.)
- Improved the speed of gradient fills. They're now as fast as they were
in 3.0i.
- Improved the speed of solid wide lines and thin lines at high
magnifications. They are much faster than in 3.1b1, but still slower
than 3.0i. (The code is very different, and the old code cannot be
used because it did not allow line strokes to be clipped.) We'll keep
working on this part of the speed equation.
- Implemented the Generate Mask command in the Object menu. Removed the
temporary Generate Mask command from the Scripts menu.
- Fixed the Unlock button in the alert box for modifying locked objects.
- Fixed FPOs. Changed their resolution to 36dpi from 18.
- Applying line, fill and color attributes to objects is now 250% faster
than 3.0i.
- Fixed the problem that made it difficult to select objects when you
clicked just off of the path.
- Fixed the problem that made it difficult to select size, point and
curve handles when you clicked just off of the handle.
- Improved the speed of importing graphics by 5-15%.
INTERFACE:
- Fixed the problem with the Page and Document palettes not blanking when
you closed the last document.
- Fixed the problem with the Page and Document palettes not having white
backgrounds if opened before a document.
- Remember Window Positions now remembers the size and position of the
Document palette.
- Fixed the Infront/Inback toggle for guides and grid in View Preferences.
- Fixed the Double Click action problem in Drawing Preferences.
- If you activate the toolbar or toolbox, the document window will become
active again when you let go of them. (Amiga only; workaround for not
having true palettes in AmigaOS.)
- Kind of moot now, but fixed using the menus when the toolbar is active.
- Changed and added many keyboard shortcuts to match the 3.1 menu
organization. If you don't have AmigaOS 3, you won't be able to see many
of them in the menus. We'll include a keyboard reference with the 3.1
help system but it's not ready yet. AmigaOS 3 users: a new type of
shortcut requires the Shift and Control keys. Shift is represented by
"s" and Control by "^", so "s^C" means Shift+Control+C. Object menu
shortcuts are all shown in uppercase now. Shifted shortcuts have an "s"
like other menus now.
- Non-menu shortcuts that changed are:
- Previous Page: Ctrl 1
- Next Page: Ctrl 2
- Go to Page: Ctrl 3
- Fixed the problem with customizing the Magnify tool increment.
- Fixed an enforcer hit in Drawing Preferences.
- Fixed the default path for backups when you clicked on the Browse
button to set a new path. The path was set to a garbage string.
SCRIPT COMMANDS:
- Removed commands: getfontfamilies, getfontstyles, settypestyle.
- Added commands: getfontlist.
SCRIPTS:
- When you send a picture or article to BME or PageLiner, respectively,
and don't change it in BME or PageLiner, the picture or article will no
longer be updated unnecessarily in PageStream.
- Fixed problems with sending an external picture to BME.
JPEG FILTER (sold separately):
- It's in English again instead of German.
CHANGES FROM 3.0i to 3.1 BETA 1
-------------------------------
DOCUMENTS:
- Implemented horizontal and vertical page spreads!
- NEW FEATURE! Double-sided pages are now automatic page spreads. Objects
can be spread across facing double-sided pages without having to make a
page spread.
- Implemented facing pages view.
- NEW FEATURE! Added a Facing Pages checkbox to the New Document and
Master Page Setup requesters. This allows you to set which pages will
be viewed as facing pages.
- Implemented the Project/Append command!
- Implemented the relative to page/spread option of Measurement
Preferences.
- Implemented the AutoBackup feature of General Preferences. Note that
documentname.bak1 will always be the most current backup copy, .bak2
the next most current, etc.
- Fixed the display of guides on left pages.
- Fixed the guide snapping of objects on left and center master pages.
(They always snapped to the right page's guides.)
- Clicking on an inactive document window will now activate it, rather
than activating it and then performing the selected tool's action.
- Fixed the Set Page Guides requester problem with the ruler shifting to
the right sometimes when you clicked to select a guide.
- Implemented recording of the user name and date for revision log
entries.
- Corrected the definition of ciceros and didot points. The conversion
routines were not correct.
- Implemented the ruler display of the remaining measurement systems
(ciceros, didot points, printer picas, printer points).
- Removed Job Number options from General Preferences. This was a little
used and requested feature.
- Fixed the Blank Master Page pop-up menu in Document Setup. (This
feature is not implemented yet, but the pop-up didn't work before.)
VIEWS:
- Corrected many view scale and display offset related problems:
- The scroll bars always take you to the correct place now.
- Scrolling all the way to the top or left will no longer hide stuff
under the rulers.
- Full page and full width modes now do what you expect all the time.
- Changing pages no longer changes the page offset within the window
(unless the new page is a different size of course).
- NEW FEATURE! PageStream now offsets the page in the window
intelligently with regard to selected objects and text! Instead of
just centering the page in the window when you switched from Full
Page to Actual Size, PageStream will now display the top left corner
if nothing is selected. If objects are selected, it will center them
in the window. If the insertion point is placed, it will logically
position the page within the window.
- Fixed the crash problem with using hidden views.
- Fixed the problem with the magnification level changing to 5% when a
custom magnification of greater than 3276% was entered.
- Setting the grid when Show Grid is not selected will no longer cause an
unnecessary screen redraw.
- Setting page guides when Show Guides is not selected will no longer
cause an unnecessary screen redraw.
- CyberGraphX:
- Fixed the problem with starting PageStream on a standard Amiga screen
and then changing to a true color (CyberGraphX) screen. PageStream
would remain in non-true color mode.
- Fixed the problem with starting PageStream on a true color
(CyberGraphX) screen and then changing to a standard Amiga screen.
PageStream would display random colors.
OBJECTS:
- Implemented FPO generation for external pictures! A low resolution
preview is now generated for pictures when they are imported and left
external. Internal pictures are shown at full resolution.
- Implemented file notification! External graphics are now updated
whenever you change them with another program.
- Implemented picture fencing! (Now called Masks)
- This feature no longer uses a requester as shown in the 3.0 manual.
To generate a mask (fence),select a picture and choose Object/Mask>>
Generate Mask. Then apply text wrap (use the Shape option).
- To remove the mask, select the masked picture and choose Object/Mask
>>Clear Mask.
- Note that this works only for pictures on a white background. While
the picture will be clipped to the shape, you should not use this to
overlap pictures because the clipping isn't pixel accurate.
- Implemented bitmapped fill patterns on screen and to non-PostScript
printers!
- NEW FEATURE! Bitmapped fills can be used with gradient fills.
- NEW FEATURE! Added 9 more preset bitmapped fill patterns.
- Implemented the Proportional Scale button in the Edit palette.
- You can now hold down Shift to proportionally scale objects before you
start dragging. In previous versions, you couldn't hold down Shift
until after you started dragging without deselecting the object.
- Implemented external EPS illustrations!
- Implemented external drawings!
- Implemented the custom frequency and angle options in Line & Fill
(formerly Edit Screen).
- Implemented cropping of lines in drawings.
- Implemented line caps.
- Implemented round joins (beveled and miter were already implemented).
- Rotated pictures now display over 500% faster!!
- Applying line and fill attributes is almost 30% faster!
- Align now works properly with locked objects.
- NEW FEATURE! Grouping objects now groups them at the best level in the
object stack, rather than at the top.
- The crossed box shown for pictures when Show Pictures is off is now
opaque rather than transparent. The box for EPS illustrations is still
transparent, because it's possible that they will not completely
obscure the objects they overlap.
- The coordinates and size handles of a framed object will now reflect
the cropped size, rather than the uncropped size.
- Fixed a problem with selecting objects.
- Fixed the problem with click selecting paths.
- Fixed the problem with drag selecting paths.
- Increased the speed of selecting paths.
- Now displays an alert when you dissolve an external drawing.
- Fixed the problem with arrowheads not working on open paths with curve
handles colocated with the end point.
- Fixed the problem with converting rotated objects (including TextFX
objects) to paths.
- Fixed the minor problem with Shift clicking on a path's Width right
arrow button in the Edit palette acting as an unshifted click.
- Implemented the Previous/Next keyboard shortcuts for editing a path
with the Reshape tool.
- Fixed the problem with Shift selecting points in a path.
- Made it easier to select points in a path by increasing the hit area
for point handles.
- Improved the speed and reliability of the EPS import filter.
- Removed the Trapping command. Sorry, trapping didn't make the cut. The
type of trapping PageStream would have done is still easy to do
yourself with the Line & Fill requester. Refer to pages 295-297 of the
manual for instructions, and just increase your line strokes as
required.
TEXT:
- Added a new RTF (Rich Text Format) import filter. This replaces the
Word and WordPerfect 5 filters for now. Those filters didn't work well,
but the RTF filter is well implemented. All major word processors,
including Word and WordPerfect, can save in RTF format.
- Fixed the problems with rotated text! (There is still a minor cosmetic
problem with highlighting from selecting text being left behind. Press
F10 to force a screen redraw. We'll fix this later.) Note that there is
still a general problem with resizing rotated objects.
- Partially implemented the Find/Change requester. Only Find is
implemented now. You can only search the current article forward from
the insertion point. Whole Words is not implemented.
- NEW FEATURE! Enter a question mark ? to search for any character. Ex:
"wom?n" would match "woman" and "women". Enter /? to search for a
true question mark, or // to search for a true forward slash.
- PageStream no longer leaves blank text blocks (text objects) on the
page. If you create a text block and then create another one, the first
one will be deleted.
- Fixed the problem with page number (and related) variables on master
pages not being correctly aligned when viewed on normal pages.
- Fixed the problem with not being able to set type size and width
independently.
- Fixed the problem with not being able to set paragraph before and after
spacing independently.
- Fixed the problem with not being able to set left and right indent
independently.
- Editing a style tag (without renaming it) is much faster now.
- Clicking in text formatted with a character style will now show the
correct character style in the Style palette and Edit palette.
- Fixed the problem with manual kerning adversely affecting the
justification of text.
- Fixed the problem with the Previous Page button being unavailable (and
the page number on the Go to Page button not changing) when you changed
pages by moving the cursor to the next page with the right or down
arrow key.
- Fixed the problem with turning off the text frame attribute of a text
frame (with the Object/ Text Frame command).
- Fixed the Set Tabs requester resizing problem (the tab ruler turned
black.)
- Fixed the Set Tabs requester which ignored the default measurement
system setting if the rulers were set to "Same As Measurement System."
- Fixed the Set Tabs requester problem with the ruler shifting to the
right sometimes when you clicked to select a tab.
- Fixed the Set Tabs requester problem with tab icons drawing on top of
each other when you changed alignment.
- Swapped the increase and decrease keyboard shortcuts for leading, which
were backwards from most other text shortcuts.
- Changed some keyboard shortcuts for moving the insertion point. Refer
to the help system for the new shortcuts. The shortcuts now adhere to
the industry standard.
- When you create a text block (frameless text object), the baseline of
the text block will be at the baseline of the cursor.
- Implemented the keyboard shortcuts for manual kerning.
- Changing the number of columns in a shape text frame now updates the
frame immediately.
- Fixed the crash problem with using a gutter value of 0.
- Implemented the updating options for Date/Time variables.
- Changed the default language for date/time/page # variables from
<As Is> to "Default". This will use the default language for the
document or chapter.
- Fixed the problem with being able to type in text blocks and frames
inside groups.
- Removed Features:
- External articles.
- Spell Checking (PageStream only): This feature is already fully
implemented in PageLiner, and it's easy to spell check
PageStream text in PageLiner with the Send to Editor command. We hope
to offer this feature directly in PageStream again in the future.
- Edit Kerning.
- Widow/Orphan/Conditional.
- Drop Caps: We know this would have been a popular feature, but the
current implementation was not worth using. Additional controls
(standoff and position) were required to make it useful. We hope to
offer a better Drop Cap feature in the future.
- Baseline grid.
COLORS:
- Changed the various color lists so that <Mixed> (formerly <As Is>) is
no longer shown in the lists except when required.
- Black is no longer selected in the Color palette when no objects are
selected.
- Fixed the problems with the color palette not being updated when you
changed colors with the Define Colors command.
STYLES:
- Plus (+) signs are now shown for overridden styles in all style lists,
not just in the Style palette.
- Fixed the problems with style and edit palettes not being updated when
you changed styles with the Define Styles command.
PRINTING (ALL DRIVERS):
- Fixed the problem with PageStream taking the time to go through all
the steps of printing even when copies was set to 0. It now forces
number of copies to 1 if it's set to 0.
POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
- Fixed the problem with emulsion down output being cropped incorrectly.
- Corrected the order in which some commands were issued. This may solve
a problem with certain imagesetters that required that commands be in a
particular order.
- When you load a PPD and the program finds a syntax error in the PPD,
the program will attempt to continue parsing now rather than aborting.
This may or may not produce acceptable results, but it should solve
problems with companies such as Lexmark that continue to give out PPD
files with typos.
- Line weights in scaled drawings now scale with the drawing when printed
to PostScript. (This was added in 3.0i, but wasn't documented.)
- Fixed the problem with offset radial fills not printing correctly.
- Added an overwrite alert to ensure you don't accidentally overwrite an
important file.
NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTING & SCREEN DISPLAY:
- Mitre joins now work to non-PostScript and screen. Previously, all
joins were beveled except to PostScript even though mitre was the
default and most common type. Round joins display and print to non-
PostScript as beveled joins.
- Fixed the problem with closed path points not being properly joined to
their segments.
- Improved the display and printing of curves and wide diagonal lines.
- Dash styles are now the same size regardless of the display or printer
resolution. (Previously, they scaled with the resolution.)
EPSON PRINTER DRIVER:
- Corrected the EpsonModels entry for a couple of models that had typos
in the table.
- Added support for the microdot feature of Stylus Color printers.
SCRIPT COMMANDS:
- New commands: removesoft, dissolveobject, setstyletag,
beginstyletag, endstyletag, makemask, makepicturemask, makeepsmask
makedrawingmask, releasemask, releasepicturemask, releaseepsmask,
releasedrawingmask, clearmask, clearpicturemask, clearepsmask,
cleardrawingmask, settypewidth, setdefaultabstop.

setindent.
- Changed parameters for: selectmasterpage.
- Renamed: - setmacropath to setscriptpath
- macropalette to scriptpalette
- Removed parameters from: setsmart, setleading, settypewidth.
- Removed commands: setfontcache, getfontcache, addfontpath,
updatefontpath, removefontpath, clearstyletag, setbleed, getbleed,
setliveupdate, setccb, setcpb, setwidow, setbaselinegrid.
SCRIPTS:
- Improved Font Specimens script:
- Fixed problems with the wrong fonts being printed.
- Increased the speed by including pre-made documents with the script
rather than building them for each use.
- Increased the speed by using variables.
- Improved the Mail Merge script:
- Fixed the problem with merging records with single quotes. (Thanks
for the fix Warren!)
- Added a Number of Copies option for printing.
- Improved the Replace Graphic script:
- If the selected object has Proportional Scale set, the new graphic
will be scaled proportionally to fit in the frame.
- Added Avery 5386 to the Avery Label script. Thanks Don!
- Added Avery 7674 to the Avery Label script. Thanks Ken!
MISCELLANEOUS:
- NEW FEATURE! Added a File Preferences option to set the scratch
(virtual memory) files location. PageStream now has built-in virtual
memory, just like BME, which it uses to load and print graphics
larger than available memory
- Renamed the PageStream3:Macros drawer to PageStream3:Scripts.
- Renamed the PageStream3.macros file to PageStream3.scripts.
- Renamed the BME.macros file to BME.scripts.
NEW PAGESTREAM INTERFACE: TOOLBOX, TOOLBAR, NAVIGATOR & EDIT PALETTE
- NEW FEATURE: Added a Crop tool to the toolbox. This splits up the
functionality of the content cropping and path reshaping into two
tools. The imagery of the Reshape tool has been changed to an arrow
over a point handle to emphasize its new focus.
- NEW FEATURE! Removed the Tour and Help buttons from the Navigator.
Replaced them with the more useful Prefs (Project/Preferences) and
Previous (previous tip) buttons. Press the Help key to open the help
system.
- Modified the Navigator icons for a less bold appearance. This is
simply a cosmetic change. Changed the Quit icon to a switch from an
arrow.
- NEW FEATURE! Added a Play Script button to the toolbar. Added a
Preferences button to the toolbar. Removed a few unnecessary tools
from the toolbar. See the online help system for details.
- NEW FEATURE! Drag with the Magnify tool to zoom in on an area of the
screen.
- You can now use either the Alt or Shift keys with the Magnify tool to
reduce the magnification level.
- Moved the toolbar out of the document window to reduce duplication of
buttons. (This also makes some things a bit faster.) The view
magnification and page buttons are still in each document window at the
bottom left corner.
- Go to Page requester:
- It will now move you to the relative page number instead of the
absolute page number, if the starting page number is greater than
1. Ex: moving to page 23 when the starting page number is 20, will
take you to relative page 23, or absolute page 4.
- NEW FEATURE! If you want to specify the page number in absolute
terms, enter the number preceded by a # character.
- NEW FEATURE! Changed the Go to Page button's label from "physical
page of count" to "virtual page of range" when the starting page
number is not 1. ie, if the starting page number is 10 and there are
15 pages, the button's label on page 12 would be "12/10-24" instead
of "3/15".
- New Featurette! Added a page range indicator to the Go to Page
requester.
- NEW FEATURE! Added Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to the toolbar.
- NEW FEATURE! Changed the object type icon in the Edit palette to an
Apply button. Changes made by typing into text gadgets in the Edit
palette are no longer applied immediately if you use Tab to move
between the gadgets. When you have made your last change, click on the
Apply button (or press Return) to apply the changes all at once. This
is =much= faster when editing multiple coordinates of pictures,
drawings and text frames! If the cursor is in a text gadget when you
press Return, press it a second time to apply the changes. (The first
Return will simply take the cursor out of the text gadget.)
- Added text gadgets to set the pre-rotation and deflection angle with
the Edit palette when the Reshape tool is selected.
PAGESTREAM INTERFACE: MENUS & REQUESTERS:
PROJECT:
- Reordered the Project menu commands.
- Added a new "System Preferences" submenu to the Project menu. This
contains former Settings menu commands that are Amiga specific.
- Added a new "Preferences" command to the Project menu. This replaces
many of the Settings menu commands which are merged into this single
dialog box. Removed the Settings menu and moved its remaining commands
to the Window menu.
- Removed the Smart Ligature feature from Typographic Preferences because
the Auto Ligature feature of Auto Kerning is more useful and having
both caused confusion.
- Moved the default font path option from the Files (Path) tab of the
Preferences requester to the Font Preferences requester.
- NEW FEATURE! Added page shadow and pasteboard color options to the View
Preferences tab of the Preferences requester.
- Moved the Project/ Hide and Reveal commands to the new Window menu.
Renamed Reveal to Show Window.
- Removed the Bleed text gadgets from New Document requester. This only
affected the scrollable area and was of little value.
- Replaced the New Document requester's attached Settings menu with a
Remember button. Few people realized that they could set the default
document size because the menu was not obvious.
EDIT:
- Renamed Edit/ Erase to Edit/ Clear.
- Renamed Edit/ Find/Replace to Find/Change.
- Moved the style, color and hyphenation editing commands to the Edit/
Define submenu.
LAYOUT:
- Renamed Layout/ Edit>>Master Page to Master Page Setup. Renamed Edit>>
Document to Document Setup. Renamed Edit>>Chapter to Chapter Setup.
Renamed Edit>>Page to Page Setup. Renamed Information>> Document and
Chapter to Reports.
- Removed the Bleed text gadgets from Master Page Setup requester. This
only affected the scrollable area and was of little value.
- Fixed the Set Guides requester which ignored the default measurement
system setting if the rulers were set to "Same As Measurement System."
- Renamed Layout/ Set Guides to Layout/ Set Page Guides.
- Holding down Shift when selecting Layout/Show Guides or Show Grid will
no longer open a requester to set guide and grid display options. These
are now merged into the Set Page Guides and Set Grid requesters,
respectively.
- Added the new Layout/ Set Rulers command to make it easier to open this
requester.
- Renamed Layout/ Create Columns to Layout/ Create Text Frames.
- Replaced the Set Grid requester's attached Settings menu with a
Remember button. Few people realized that they could set the default
grid options because the menu was not obvious.

- Removed the View/ Greek Text command.
- Removed the View/ Facing Pages command. Facing pages can now be
independently for each master page!
- Removed the View menu. Its commands have been moved to the Window menu
and Preferences requester.

Workspace, Show Full Height, Show 25%, Show 150%, Show 400%. Removed
the Variable Zoom command because the Magnify tool does this now.
TYPE:

replaced them with a more standard and more useful list of preset type
sizes that match the list in the Edit palette. Also added more sizes to
this list and to the list in the Edit palette.

widths.
- Renamed Type/ Type Styles/ Normal to Plain.
- Type/ Insert Page Break and Insert Column Break are now in the Type/

command, as well as >>Set Kerning to make it easier to open this
requester.
- Moved the Type/ Insert Character command to the Type/ Insert submenu.
- NEW FEATURE! Added the list of current text styles to the Object/
Paragraph Styles and Character Styles submenus. Shift select a style to
edit it.
- PageStream for Macintosh has a scrolling list of fonts in its Font
submenu. This isn't possible with AmigaOS due to menu limitations. The
Amiga version's Font command opens a requester from which to select a
font instead. Type size is no longer set in this requester, and the
typeface family and style names were merged together for compatability
with MacOS and Windows.
OBJECT:
- NEW FEATURE! Added the Object/ Join Objects command. Rather than
converting shapes to paths when you merge objects as the Merge Paths
command does, this command retains the original object type so that if
you later split the compound object, the original objects will still be
their original object types.
- NEW FEATURE! Renamed Object/Split Paths to Split. This command now can
now split compound objects (Join Objects) and composite paths (Merge
Paths).
- NEW FEATURE! Added the Object/ Convert to Path command to convert any
object to a path. (If you own the TextFX extension, this will also
convert frameless text objects to paths just like the old Macros/
Convert to Path script did.)
- NEW FEATURE! Added tab buttons to the Line & Fill requester to better
organize the options. The Screen button has been replaced by a Screen
tab.
- Object/ Bring to Front... commands are now in the Object/ Stack
submenu.
- Object/ Make Drawing... commands are now in the Object/ Drawing
submenu.
- Renamed the Object/ Text Frame command to Object/ Frame>>Text. Use
>>None to toggle off the text frame capability of an object and >>Text
to toggle it on. Added the >>Text Frame Options command to make it
easier to open this requester.

Styles submenu. Shift select a style to edit it.
- Merged the Object/ Information command with the Edit/ Article
Information command to become the new Edit/ Information command.
- Removed the Object/ Edit command. Object coordinates may now be edited
numerically only with the Edit palette. The Leave External toggle for
drawing, picture and EPS objects is now in the Edit/ Information
requester. Other object specific values may be set with the Reshape
tool and the Edit palette.

See above for an explanation of physical and virtual page numbers.
- NEW FEATURE! Added a popup menu to the palette for common page
features such as inserting, moving and deleting pages.
- NEW FEATURE! Renamed Layout/Document Structure to Window/ Show Document

more useful. The interface is improved over the original 3.0 design:
- Drag a master page from the "master page stack" to insert a master
page.
- Drag a chapter from the "chapter" icon to insert a chapter.
- NEW FEATURE! Double click a chapter to move to that chapter.

- Fixed the broken Bend Lines option.
NOTES
-----
- If you need to force a screen redraw because PageStream didn't
properly redraw the screen, choose Scripts/Refresh Window. This
is assigned to F10 as the default.
- SoftLogik recommends CanonStudio or Studio II for printing on Canon
printers. Some Canon models are supported in Epson emulation mode by
PageStream's custom Epson driver.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- New Emboss and Sharpen effects for BME have been added! Refer to the help
system for information.

box's left coordinate is 8.125" and you want to move it right by 0.333"
but can't add that in your head, just enter the following into the Edit
palette's appropriate text gadget: 8.125"+0.333. When youpress Tab or
Return, the expression will be evaluated and its sum of 8.458" will
appear in the text gadget. The following math operators are supported:
+ add; - subtract; * multiply; / divide; () parenthetical expressions.
Additionally, `pi' (3.1416...) may be entered.

size and width. This makes changing the type size more convenient.

lists.

the New Document page size popup gadget. If you have a page size default
request, let us know.

Insert Time icons to the toolbar. If your document window is not wide
enough, you will not be able to see these icons; they are just a bonus
for those with large screens.

undone or redone. ie, Undo Move, Undo Scale.
- New "Mail Merge" script. See the help system for more information.
- New "Print Font Specimens" (FontSpec.rexx) script.

PICT files at this time, but this is the most common type.
- PageStream now supports CyberGfx graphic cards. You can now work in up
to 24 bit mode on a CyberGfx compatible system!
- BME now has virtual memory support built-in! If you load a picture
larger than available memory, it will use your hard drive for virtual
